Etymology

Originally Cuban. Possibly derived from English wagon, or from the expression de guagua meaning "for free", since buses in Cuba were very cheap at that time. According to Canarian folk etymology, imitative of the buses' honking or wheel suspension. See: English Nouns 'wagon'.
