Etymology
1. 1664, "to beat or roll into thin plates," from L.
lamina "thin piece of metal or wood." Many modern senses are from the noun meaning "an artificial thin layer" (1939), especially a type of plastic adhesive.
2. First attested in 1666; borrowed from New Latin laminātus, perfect passive participle of laminō (attested since the first quarter of the 16th century), from Latin lāmina (“thin sheet of metal/other material”), see -ate (etymology 1, 2 and 3).
