The aim of the first lesson is to get familiar with the very basics:

  • Manual installation of language extensions

Manual installation of language extension

Manual installation of language extension involves two things:

  • Downloading the language extension (If you have a language extension already on your computer hard-disk, you don't have to download it.)
  • Installing the language extension

Downloading a language extension

To download a language extension from Verbix site for example, right-click in your browser the link to the language extension.

a) In Internet Explorer, choose in the pop-up menu 'Save Target As...'
b) In Netscape, choose in the pop-up menu 'Save Link As...'

Save the language extension to your hard-disk.

Let's download the language extension related to the first lesson now:

  1. Right-click the following link: 1. Lesson language extension
  2. Save it to folder: My Documents/verbixtutorial/ (create this folder, if it doesn't exist. This is the local folder that is referred to later in the tutorial)

Installing a language extension

It's easy to install language extensions stored in local folders of your computer.

  1. Run Verbix for Windows
  2. Choose File|Open... in Verbix menu and locate the language extension.
  3. After pressing OK button, Verbix will tell if it succeeded in installing the language extension.

You can now test this on the language extension file that you stored in My Documents/verbixtutorial/. (The file to open in Verbix should be 'lesson01.xml').

After succesful installation of the language extension, Verbix will popup following message:

Looking at the "conjugations" of the language extension

If you haven't installed aforementioned language extension, do it now.

Now in Verbix language list choose 'Test language'.

In language info view, the only information displayed is:

  • Language name: Test language
  • Under construction (1,00% ready)

Switch to Verb tables view

  • Click the 'verb' world from the verb list
  • Click show all tenses

Verbix should show the following:

Now that you know how to install any Verbix language installation, we can start looking at the extensions themselves. Lesson 2 will explain the Language Extension code needed to display the "Hello world!" text.
